- ➤ Residents in Lafayette shared how they plan to welcome 2026 during New Year's celebrations, with some hosting fondue gatherings + others opting for quiet dinners at home while setting intentions for finance, fitness, and reading. Star City News
- ➤ Southwestern Middle School students donated $300 in gifts to Franciscan cancer patients this holiday season after raising funds at a Tat-a-Teacher event. Junior Honor Society members also personalized gift bags by writing messages and drawing for the patients. Star City News
- ➤ The Lafayette Farmers Market will move indoors this winter at the Lahr Atrium off 5th Street in downtown Lafayette and will open once a month from 8 a.m. to noon starting Jan. 10 (Feb. 7, March 7 and April 4). Star City News

- ➤ Purdue animal science students (including Caylee James and Sydney Frost) cared for cattle on Dec. 4 in West Lafayette as local football coach Scott Cronk vaccinated a newborn calf and fed hay amid frosty winter conditions. Journal & Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lafayette warns that heavy rain and snow melt may cause sewers to overflow, sending untreated wastewater & stormwater runoff into waterways including the Wabash River downstream of Greenbush Street. Residents should avoid contact with urban streams during and up to three days after rainfall to prevent illness. WLFI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Franciscan Health Cancer Center Lafayette recently received gift bags donated by students in the Junior Honor Society from Southwestern Middle School. The students raised over $300 through their Tat a Teacher fundraiser to purchase care items and hand-drawn cards for chemotherapy patients. WLFI
- ➤ After holiday gatherings, respiratory viruses are on the rise, so Franciscan Health has imposed visitor restrictions at local hospitals, and IU Health hospitals will add similar rules on Jan. 5. Health officials advise thorough hand washing, staying home if sick, and updated vaccines (flu, COVID-19 and RSV) to help prevent spread. Star City News
