COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Greater Lafayette Christmas Parade will march in reverse on Main Street to improve safety and traffic flow. The parade will start at 5 p.m. from Second Street and end at 11th Street with nearly 200 entries, while street closures begin at 3 p.m.  Journal & Courier
  • A dedication ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Greenbush Cemetery for a repurposed vault that now serves as a columbarium for 140 unclaimed cremains, marking a four-year community-funded effort for a dignified memorial.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Santa and his reindeer visit the Columbian Park Zoo Carousel for the third Reindeer Rendezvous scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can meet Santa, join holiday crafts, and get a free cookie while tickets are available for $8 online or $10 at the door (ticket sign-up required).  WLFI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Lafayette Police Department honored retired lieutenant and parking control officer Jerry Burk for 45 years of service. The department praised his long-lasting commitment — a testimony to his impact across generations.  Star City News
  • Lafayette and West Lafayette are asking residents for input on their 2026 action plan covering housing, homelessness, and community development. The survey remains open (until Jan. 31) for everyone to share their views.  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Indiana Conservation Officers urge residents to check ice safety before engaging in ice fishing, skating and snowmobiling on frozen water bodies (ice should be at least 4 inches for fishing and 5 inches for snowmobiling) while wearing a life jacket, not venturing alone, and leaving a note with someone.  WLFI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A historic home at 9 N. Tenth St. was demolished due to fire-damage and neglect, with volunteers salvaging key items. The diocese will demolish a 19th-century home at 1014 South St. in the new year as plans for neighborhood green spaces advance.  Journal & Courier

  • Purdue volleyball hosted Baylor in the NCAA Tournament second round on Friday at Holloway Gymnasium — Purdue won the match with strong plays from Taylor Anderson and Kenna Wollard.  Journal & Courier
