COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lafayette Parks and Recreation is hosting a Christmas-themed cookie decorating class this Saturday — December 6 — with limited spots available for local residents.  Star City News
  • The widow of late Lafayette cardiologist Fred Kuipers is matching donations up to $7,500 for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign from Dec. 4-6 to honor his legacy. Salvation Army leaders say the donation will support families in need across the community.  Journal & Courier
  • Food Finders is nearing the end of its Drive Away Hunger campaign and expects to exceed its 800,000 meal goal with early counts nearing one million meals. President and CEO Kier Crites Muller said the food bank will boost donations on Giving Tuesday with a dollar-for-dollar match up to $20,000 — a move intended to help Lafayette residents still affected by recent SNAP delays.  Star City News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Lafayette City Council approved rezoning for Sustainea’s plant-based facility at the Primient site — moving forward a $430 million project that will create 95 jobs initially and grow to 191 as production expands. Construction will begin by the end of 2026 and production is set to start in 2028.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday at Purdue Research Park, state and local officials including Governor Mike Braun and Mayor Erin Easter toured MediaTek's new semiconductor design office to discuss the growth of the tech industry. Local leaders said they view the event as a milestone for strengthening Lafayette's economic future.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue volleyball players earned honors when the Big Ten all-conference teams were announced on Dec. 2—five Boilermakers made the list, including standout performances by Kenna Wollard and Taylor Anderson. The team will begin postseason play on Dec. 4 with a first-round NCAA Tournament match against Wright State at 7 p.m.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue basketball was picked as the preseason Big Ten favorite and began conference play Tuesday with a 7-0 record at Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers face obstacles such as matchups against strong teams like Michigan, Michigan State and Illinois along with past Big Ten road opener losses and rebounding challenges before winning the league title.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue played Rutgers on Dec. 2 at Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway, where the Boilermakers led the game with strong rebounding and few turnovers — Trey Kaufman-Renn recorded a double-double — while Rutgers faced key injuries such as Dorian Jones being out for the season.  Journal & Courier
  • Casey Shuessler led her sisters Kylie and Kenzie at Central Catholic as they built a strong family legacy on the basketball court—helping the Knights start 3–3 this season and sparking hopes for more wins.  WLFI
  • Junior defensive back Sterling 'Stu' Smith joined Purdue from Holy Cross in 2024 and played in 12 games in 2025. He announced on X that he will enter the transfer portal on Jan. 2, 2026—he still has two years of eligibility—making him Purdue football's first transfer portal entry.  Journal & Courier
  • Yesterday, Purdue basketball ended its challenging Big Ten road opener struggles by beating Rutgers 81-65 at Jersey Mike’s Arena—led by Braden Smith’s eight assists and a strong team performance—and improved to 8-0.
