COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Collection season for Operation Christmas Child begins today — nearly 5,000 drop-off locations nationwide offer Indiana residents a chance to pack a shoebox with toys, school supplies and care items for children in need during National Collection Week, which ends November 24th.  WLFI
  • Lafayette Fire has partnered with Food Finders to facilitate a holiday drive at each LFD station—where residents can donate canned food or non-perishable items for Food Finders Food Bank—helping support local families.  Star City News
  • West Lafayette Parks and Recreation will hold the Day Before Thanksgiving Market—featuring holiday themed vendors, treats and art—from 2-6 p.m. on November 26 at the John R. Dennis Wellness Center. The market will showcase festive decor to mark the start of the holiday season.  Star City News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Terry Frye, a 23-year-old National Guardsman from Lafayette, died after his convoy from Frankfort Armory to Camp Atterbury was involved in a three-vehicle crash on I-65 in Boone County on Friday — three other soldiers were hospitalized.  Journal & Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Last week, Local (a collaboration between Lafayette, Downtown Lafayette Business Owners Association and MatchBOX studios) opened at the corner of 6th and Main Street, renting two white-box storefronts for 30 days to let product-based entrepreneurs test new ideas and build a customer base.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After Charlie Kirk was assassinated, student chapters of Turning Point USA in Indiana saw their membership triple as they held more campus events to discuss free speech and different political views + plan larger gatherings to fit the growing interest. Leaders at Purdue, IU Bloomington, and IU Indianapolis say they are expanding event spaces to keep the discussion going and honor their founder.  Journal & Courier
  • McAllister Rec Center’s Winter Break Camp will offer childcare for kids ages six to twelve on December 22 to 24 and December 29 to 31 — the program charges $120 for the full period or $45 per day and registration is open.  Star City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At its annual meeting, Tree Lafayette celebrated that it will have planted 313 trees this year — part of a total of 4,988 trees since 1993 — and recognized volunteers including Mayor Roswarski.  Star City News

FINANCE NEWS

  • Purdue Federal Credit Union was named Bank of the Year by the Regional Development Company—receiving the honor after referring a $2.6 million loan to support local businesses and showing its commitment to accessible financial solutions.  WLFI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tippecanoe County’s Paula Bennet was honored as the 2025 ADA Coordinator of the Year on Monday morning by the Indiana ADA and Title VI Coordinators Association — the Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners presented the award and praised her strong work on ADA and Title VI efforts.  Star City News
  • The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office recorded a fun video of school resource officers handing out fake tickets to students for saying '6-7' — the clip quickly went viral with over 560,000 views and was even mentioned on Saturday Night Live, while Sheriff Bob Goldsmith said no real tickets were issued and the stunt was meant for community engagement.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue men's basketball players dominated NIL Store sales last week, with five players in the top 10 — including senior Braden Smith leading the list. The team, which rose to No. 1 in Monday's USA Today coaches poll after key wins, will compete in the Baha Mar Championship tourney starting Thursday, Nov. 20.  Journal & Courier
  • Lafayette Jeff’s girls basketball team posted an 18-7 record after defeating Lake Central 54-42 last Wednesday and forcing 28 turnovers to showcase their strong defense. Coach Jenna Sullivan said the team — including seniors Maya Layton, Shaylee Barrett, Da’Niyah Johnson, and Cambria Marcus — will build on this turnaround as they aim for their first sectional title win since 2009.  Journal & Courier
