COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Local charities in Greater Lafayette are facing a shortage of donations for holiday programs—Toys for Tots has only $3,000 available as it aims to give presents to 16,000 children, while LUM's Jubilee Christmas and Woodland Elementary School are also scrambling for funds to support local families. - ➤ Ivy Tech Lafayette expanded its Wolf Pack Pantry to help address food insecurity for students and employees—donated refrigerator and freezer units from Whirlpool Corporation and Swipe Out Hunger made the expansion possible—usage increased from 64 to 312 in the past year. WLFI
- ➤ Today, over 1000 teachers from Tippecanoe, Montgomery, and Fountain counties learned life-saving techniques in a hands-on emergency response session at Jefferson High School hosted by Franciscan Health. Franciscan will soon supply essential kits to 2,500 classrooms — aiming to prepare over 62,500 students for severe bleeding emergencies. Star City News
- ➤ Lafayette Jefferson High School is presenting its fall musical The Wizard of Oz that uses music, lights, and effects to bring the classic story to life. The performances will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday with tickets on sale at $15 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under — a show prepared by students to display their acting skills. WLFI

- ➤ Residents in Greater Lafayette saw the northern lights Tuesday night when Dr. Cauê Borlina from Purdue University explained that peak solar activity created a rare display — he said the aurora may appear again Wednesday after sunset and a few more times in the next year. Star City News

- ➤ Lafayette Mayor Roswarski attended Veterans Day ceremonies at the Indiana Veterans’ Home and American Legion Post 11 on November 11 to honor local veterans. Star City News

- ➤ High school athletes from Harrison, Lafayette Jeff, McCutcheon and Seeger signed letters of intent on November 12th as part of National Signing Day, choosing college teams for softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball and track — marking a new step in their sports careers. Fourteen students committed to continue their athletic journeys at colleges such as Purdue Northwest, Wabash Valley College and IU Kokomo. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Because a contract dispute removed ESPN from YouTube TV, Purdue basketball fans must use another streaming service or see the game at a local bar. - ➤ Purdue basketball now expects All-Big Ten forward Trey Kaufman-Renn to return to the lineup today after missing two regular season games with a hip injury — he practiced with the team on Tuesday and boosts scoring ahead of a top 10 game today at Alabama. Kaufman-Renn led the team in scoring and rebounding last season and his comeback strengthens the Boilermakers ahead of the contest. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Twin Lakes football players Darin Baker, Fisher Clark, DJ Guthrie and Roosevelt 8th grader Avery Foutch hosted Lafayette area's top plays of the week and highlighted key moments from girls basketball and state volleyball kills. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Harrison Girls Basketball ended a 7-17 season last year after losing five seniors who helped the team, and coach Russ McColley is excited as returning starters Aleah Suh-man-ski, Allison McColley and Sadey Ringler work to improve the team's record in the upcoming 2025-26 season. WLFI
- ➤ Sinan Huan, a 7-foot-1 center from China, committed to Purdue basketball on Nov. 12 after visiting the campus in early September and choosing Purdue over Illinois and Ohio State. He becomes the seventh player at least 7 feet tall in 13 years — a four-star 2026 recruit with solid prep stats from Georgetown Prep and international experience in the FIBA U19 World Cup.
