  • Pride Lafayette President Ashley Smith was awarded the Athena Award at the GLC celebration—recognizing her professional excellence and community service, including her contributions with the American Red Cross and other groups.  Star City News
  • HIVE Recovery Hub is asking for donations of cold weather gear such as jackets, boots, gloves, blankets, and sleeping bags. Drop-offs can be made at its location—2300 Ferry Street in Lafayette.  Star City News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Travel Girl Group warned that the FAA will cancel up to 10% of flights next week—clients have already postponed trips while airlines must offer flexible refund options. The director said international flights may still face delays at hubs and other travel parts like hotels and car rentals may be hard to refund without proper travel protection.  Star City News
  • Local, a retail pop-up space at 601 Main St, will open on Nov. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. It will host two entrepreneurs on 30-day trial runs in white-boxed storefronts — a project led by MatchBOX Studios and the Downtown Lafayette Business Owners Association to lower entry costs for new businesses.  Journal & Courier

  • Jefferson High School's cast visited Lafayette School Corporation elementary schools to preview its fall musical (The Wizard of Oz), which will play November 14, 15 and 16 with tickets available online.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue University reported its lowest international freshman enrollment since 2008—525 students making up 5% of the class amid rising visa issues and record-high application volumes. The decline is part of a nationwide trend that could affect the $1 billion annual boost from international students.  Journal & Courier

  • Tippecanoe County announced the Davis Ferry boat ramp will close on Nov. 17 through Nov. 26—tree removal on the 9th Street Bridge is planned—to allow the Wabash Heritage Trail to remain open.  Star City News
  • West Lafayette won the Quality of Life Award at the Greater Lafayette Commerce Celebration on Nov 7 and shared photos of the event on Facebook—this award shows the city is making improvements for its residents.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue football has improved its special teams play this season under coordinator James Shibest—head coach Barry Odom brought him from UNLV and calls him the best in football. The unit has seen better kicking, punting, and returns, helping the Boilermakers nearly secure wins against Rutgers and Michigan.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue basketball beat Oakland 87-77 as redshirt freshman Jack Benter and transfer Liam Murphy filled in while injured star forward Trey Kaufman-Renn was sidelined—leaving the team needing his scoring and rebounding before their upcoming road game at Alabama.  Journal & Courier
  • Twin Lakes beat Western 35 to 19 on Friday night to win its first IHSAA sectional football title since 2002. Ledger Shaffer made two touchdown catches and one interception early in the game — key plays that helped the team win — and Twin Lakes will host Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger for the regional title on Nov 14th.  Journal & Courier
