COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Preserve Historic Lafayette announced Tuesday that the Beasley House, built in 1902 and once used as a doctor's office (by Dr. George Beasley) and later as a funeral home, will become a protected landmark (after efforts from Hahn-Groeber Funeral & Cremation Services) in Lafayette.  Star City News
  • McDonald’s in Lafayette and West Lafayette will offer free breakfast for veterans on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 with the meal available until 10:30 a.m. Veterans with military IDs will get an Egg McMuffin, hashbrown and drink — a gesture to honor their service.  Journal & Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, and Carvel will share a new retail space beneath the Hub on Campus high-rise at 111 S. Salisbury St. in West Lafayette, with a build-out estimated at $450,000—parent company GoTo Foods also owns Moe's Southwest Grill, Jamba Juice and McAllister's Deli while no opening date has been confirmed.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McCutcheon’s Spell Bowl team finished as state runners-up after a close contest with Penn High School; the team will compete at the Grand Championship on November 15 at Purdue + three students qualified for the individual state meet on November 20.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last night, three new firefighters—Calvin Underwood, Andrew Schafer, and Kyle Harden—graduated their training and officially joined the Lafayette Fire Department. Mayor Roswarski and local community leaders attended the ceremony + congratulated the recruits on starting their new roles.  Star City News

  • Lafayette area high school football teams remain in action after several teams were eliminated in the IHSAA sectional semifinals. Fans can now vote for the Ivy Tech Journal and Courier top football player of the week — the vote highlights key performers from Lafayette Jeff, McCutcheon, Carroll, Twin Lakes and West Central.  Journal & Courier
  • Drew Brees will be honored at the NCAA convention in January for his career as a Purdue football star — he is one of four former student-athletes set to receive the Silver Anniversary Award for their post-playing accomplishments.  Journal & Courier
