COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community groups in Tippecanoe County are preparing for the end of federal SNAP benefits on Nov. 1—local churches and non-profits have set up food pantries and meal services across Lafayette, Battle Ground, and Clarks Hill to assist those in need. The provided list details locations and hours to help residents access meals after funding ends.  Journal & Courier
  • Families at the H38 East Apartment Complex in Tippecanoe County have been forced to leave their units with less than two weeks' notice due to urgent water issues in the building's geothermal water system (the water appears cloudy and unsafe). The property owner is working with inspectors and the Indiana Housing Authority (aiming to resolve the problem in six to eight weeks) while offering residents alternative accommodations or a full deposit refund.  WLFI
  • Today, Second Flight Books hosts Trick-or-Trade to support local food banks after SNAP cuts as community members bring shelf-stable food + cash in exchange for a book from its advance reader copies at 2122 Scott Street.  Star City News

  • The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its 75th season and Lafayette’s bicentennial with a performance on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Center for Performing Arts — Mayor Roswarski will appear as a narrator and tickets start at $12.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Saab and Boeing unveiled the T-7A Red Hawk fighter jet in West Lafayette which will be partly built here to train future Air Force pilots — Purdue engineers are involved — and the first jet will be delivered to Randolph Air Force Base on December 5.  WLFI
  • The Lafayette Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy graduated its 2025 class last week and was recognized by community leaders (Chief Galloway, Mayor Roswarski, and Clerk Cindy Murray) and family and friends after eight Thursday sessions on police work and community safety. SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue basketball showed mixed results in two exhibition games—with a 92–49 win over University of Indianapolis and a loss to Kentucky. Coach Painter said the team will work on defense and shot making—as it prepares for the season—by using its deep roster.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue football is set to take on Michigan Saturday night after a six-game losing streak and a tough November schedule that includes games against Ohio State and Indiana — the team hopes recent improvements under a mostly new coaching staff will mark a turning point for their season.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue sophomore Daniel Jacobsen returned from injury and shined with his 7-foot-4 defensive play and lob dunks during an exhibition game that helped Purdue defeat UIndy—coaches and teammates expect his transformative play to boost both offense and defense this season.  Journal & Courier
