COMMUNITY NEWS

  • As colder weather comes, Lafayette parks start their winterization process. The splash pad at McPaw Dog Park—closed until spring—and drinking fountains have been turned off.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tippecanoe School Corp has added a seventh school resource officer—deputy Dan McDermott—who will primarily serve McCutcheon High School and join six officers covering 22 school locations with 14,000 students, further supporting a safe learning environment.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Lafayette is hosting a public session to discuss expanding Fire Station No. 3 to serve over 25,000 new housing units. The session will be held next Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the John R. Dennis Wellness Center—residents are invited to share their input.  Star City News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Collin Black, a mechanic at Beck's Auto Center, explained how drivers can protect their cars as the temperature drops below freezing. He recommended using ice scrapers, checking tire pressure (every 10 degrees change affects it), and starting the car early to warm up the engine.  Star City News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Oasis Community project in West Lafayette will soon offer inclusive housing for disabled residents and their neighbors, including flexible homes, an enrichment center with a coffee shop, and gymnasium — all planned to begin construction by the end of the year. The development is under review by the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission and will proceed in three phases that will add a park and townhomes later.  Journal & Courier
  • Data from Realtor.com shows that in September the median listing price in Tippecanoe County fell 4.4% to $362,450 from $379,000 in August while homes averaged 2,052 square feet at $178 per square foot—listings spent a median 43 days on the market. New listings increased by 20.3% compared to September last year and the figures reflect only houses for sale, excluding new construction.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • The top-ranked Purdue Boilermakers played an exhibition game against No. 9 Kentucky on Oct. 24 at Rupp Arena in Lexington—highlighting new roster additions like freshman Antione West Jr. while Purdue struggled with defensive rotations as the contest stayed within one possession.  Journal & Courier
  • Seeger beat Central Catholic 28-27 in a tight IHSAA 2A sectional playoff game as senior running back Tucker Herndon scored with 25.7 seconds left and the team stopped a 2-point conversion with 4.2 seconds remaining—sending them to a semifinal matchup at Lewis Cass next Friday. Key turnovers by Central Catholic allowed Seeger to build the momentum needed for the win.  Journal & Courier
  • Grace Heaney returned to Purdue volleyball after missing the 2024 season due to surgery, helping the team post a (15-3) record and climb to a No. 11 ranking. Coach Dave Shondell said her career-best .581 hitting and 18 kills have energized the Boilermakers, who will play Illinois on Friday.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue is hosting 46 recruiting visitors at today's Homecoming game against Rutgers, including five 2027 offensive linemen such as four-star recruits Dewey Young and Jakari Lipsey — both targeted by major schools — and other prospects from the 2026 class as the program looks to boost its roster.  Journal & Courier
  • Yesterday, Lafayette area high school football sectional playoffs took place—Central Catholic lost 7 to 0 to Seeger while several other games were played. The Journal and Courier provided live updates on matchups including West Lafayette versus Western.  Journal & Courier
