COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Purdue Homecoming parade will move from Memorial Mall to the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and roads along Mitch Daniels Boulevard and Martin Jischke Drive will close until about 9 p.m.—residents are advised to use alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic.  Star City News
  • City of Lafayette shared photos of its new downtown mural painted by Zach Curtis, which the General de Lafayette chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution commissioned— the mural honors three historical figures who visited the city.  Star City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Purdue Women’s Club Photo Guild’s 'Our Second Act' photography exhibition opened on Oct.2 at the West Lafayette Public Library and will run until Oct.30. Visitors can view the exhibit during library hours (Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.).  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tippecanoe School Corporation is using a $55,000 state grant to boost STEM programs at McCutcheon High School with its robotics team. The funds will buy kits for classroom and extracurricular projects that teach the engineering design process.  Star City News

  • West Lafayette is asking residents for their opinions on a potential ordinance that would allow them to maintain managed natural landscapes—responses are being collected via a survey that will close on Oct 28.  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Abby Livingston, a mother of three who was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in January after a self-exam revealed a lump, now credits her family and the staff at Franciscan Cancer Center for giving her strength. She urges women to perform regular self-exams so that cancer can be caught early—she believes early detection is key.  WLFI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Dog owners in Lafayette can enroll in a training master class bundle on dog care that is 75% off its regular price. The six-course bundle covers leash training, reducing barking, and healthy diets and costs $29.99—offering lifetime access once purchased.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue will try to break its five-game losing streak when it faces Rutgers at Ross-Ade Stadium during Homecoming on Saturday at noon — coach Barry Odom is still deciding between quarterback Ryan Browne, who is ruled doubtful with a shoulder injury, and Malachi Singleton. Both teams are aiming to turn their fortunes around as they approach the game.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue coach Matt Painter said he chose Oscar Cluff as the starting center because Cluff, who averaged 12.3 rebounds last season, proved to be the better option over Daniel Jacobsen. The Boilermakers will play an exhibition game on October 29 at Mackey Arena — a move that aims to fix last season’s rebounding problems.  Journal & Courier
  • Kyle Liedtky, a Marine veteran and former rugby player, is coaching special teams at Central Catholic to improve punting and kickoff skills on the practice field. He has worked with players such as senior Cal Reisman and sophomore Alex Mayorga on plays including a drop kick punt—drawing on his college and military experience to boost the team's performance.  Journal & Courier
