COMMUNITY NEWS

  • McAllister Rec Center will begin its toddler time events this Saturday (8-11 a.m.). The events are for kids 5 and under and cost $5 per family.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue University released detailed records to a House committee after a spring request concerning the national security risks tied to Chinese students in federally funded research. The documents, signed by Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe, show that nearly 30% of Chinese graduate students worked on federal projects in Fall 2024+ and list student demographics and academic majors.  Journal & Courier
  • Oakland Elementary student Sophia was named Lafayette Police Department’s Student of the Month for October—an award acknowledging her kindness, respect and perseverance that was presented by the Mayor, City Clerk and police.  Star City News
  • Indiana education officials revised the school accountability plan by adding new reading measures and a 'back on track' indicator—focusing on each student's progress and simplifying how schools earn points. The new plan is open for public comment until Nov. 17 and will replace the A-F system with implementation starting in the 2026–27 school year.  WLFI
  • West Lafayette announced plans under its Early Childhood Education Initiative to design a new early childhood education center to help fill a local childcare shortage. Research indicates the community needs 75 to 125 more childcare slots—this center will aim to meet that demand.  Star City News
  • Lafayette Christian School celebrated its 75th anniversary with its 31st annual Dutch Apple Pie sale, selling nearly 3000 pies on the first day as 50 volunteers worked long hours. Any extra pies will be sold tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.—the proceeds help lower tuition costs for families.  Star City News

  • Thursday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Purdue defeated Indiana when junior Kenna Wollard recorded 18 kills, 2 aces, 7 digs, and 3 blocks in a 25-19, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21 win. Coach Dave Shondell praised her loyalty after four top players entered the transfer portal, saying her commitment made her a standout for the team.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue football is set to travel to Northwestern’s Martin Stadium as underdogs after four straight losses, with the Wildcats on a three-game winning streak. Purdue will boost its rushing attack and tighten its defense against a strong penalty discipline while handling injury setbacks — the recent stats highlight the challenge ahead.  Journal & Courier
  • Faith Christian football is growing in its second 11-man season as the Eagles won last Friday's Midwestern Conference game and now prepare for their final game Friday night against Greenwood Christian Academy. Coach Jesse Shale said the team is coming together — a sign of progress even though they will be playoff eligible only next season.  Journal & Courier
