BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Today, Wea Creek Orchard co-owner Perry Kirkham said that a forecasted frost will hurt some apples while improving the color on others, so workers were called in to pick fruit earlier—helping to save the crop before the cold damages too many apples. The cool weather also draws visitors who enjoy fall treats like apple cider and pumpkins. Star City News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Organizers will hold the 58th Feast of the Hunters Moon festival this weekend to recreate 18th century life with food, music and storytelling—hundreds have worked for two weeks to prepare the grounds. The event will boost our local economy by bringing over $2 million from hotels, restaurants and visitor spending. Star City News
- ➤ General de Lafayette Daughters of the American Revolution announced that artist Zach Curtis (from Detroit) will paint three murals for the county bicentennial at 707 Main Street. He will start work on Oct. 14 and the project will be publicly dedicated (at 3 p.m. on Oct. 22). Star City News

- ➤ City of West Lafayette announced plans to invest in childcare infrastructure—joining Ivy Tech Community College, Right Steps, Greater Lafayette Career Academy and Purdue’s Center for Early Learning, which have begun designing curricula and accreditation pathways. - ➤ The City of Lafayette earned two bronze awards for its clean energy and sustainable transportation efforts—receiving the Sol-Smart Bronze for making solar systems more affordable and the Charging Smart Bronze for expanding its electric vehicle charging network. WLFI
- ➤ Drivers in Tippecanoe County must plan for detours as 250 North from Klondike Road to 400 West in West Lafayette is closed starting Monday for storm sewer and waterline work—this project will continue through Friday, January 31, with potential delays if the weather changes. WLFI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Purdue University veterinarians are studying horse asthma to develop treatments for both animals and people. They found that horses fed fish oil had reduced lung inflammation over four weeks—unlike those given a placebo. WLFI
- ➤ Purdue University plans to launch a Center for Musculoskeletal Engineering in Indianapolis—part of its One Health Initiative—to study arthritis and weak bones, and the center will focus on advancing research in these areas. Star City News
