COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The weekly Purdue Farmers Market brings fresh food and other products to students and local residents, easing access to essential goods and strengthening ties between the campus and its community. The market runs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the end of October — offering vendors an opportunity to connect with new customers.  Star City News

  • A tree broke on Sept. 17 and damaged the Frank Lloyd Wright Samara House in West Lafayette—repairs are underway.  Journal & Courier
  • The Feast of Hunters’ Moon festival has moved its bus pick up location from Ross-Ade Stadium to the Purdue Discovery Lot near the Purdue Airport for next weekend’s event—visitors pay $2 for a roundtrip ride.  Star City News
  • The Frank Lloyd Wright Samara House in West Lafayette was damaged by a falling tree trunk from a rotted pin oak last month. Repairs on the copper fascia and crushed driveway bricks are underway—tours have continued without interruption.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue ended its GEARUP program after a $34.9 million grant was cut, impacting Lafayette School Corporation secondary schools that used the program for after-school tutoring and STEM camps—officials said they will look for new funding sources to support students.  Star City News

  • Tippecanoe County is asking local residents for their opinions on park improvements—via a Facebook survey released by the County Parks Department and Area Plan Commission to guide future enhancements.  Star City News
  • Lafayette city officials have proposed new zoning rules to limit the rapid increase of gas stations and extend decommissioning plan requirements to car washes and oil change businesses; the ordinance will be voted on by Tippecanoe County municipalities starting Monday—officials say the measure ensures properties can be redeveloped when needed.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue basketball enters the season as a national title contender — led by Trey Kaufman Renn, Braden Smith, and a deep roster that practices hard to mimic tough Big Ten play. Coach Matt Painter said the team is excited but must still prove its strength in its upcoming game against Rutgers.  Journal & Courier
  • The 78th Edition of Motocross of Nations kicks off this weekend in Crawfordsville, and local sports fans are expected to enjoy the exciting race. WLFI will provide a recap after the event.  WLFI
  • Purdue sophomore Blake Rowe was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after winning both the 100 and 200 backstroke events at the Seminole Fall Classic—helping Purdue finish as runner-up while setting lifetime bests that ranked him 11th in program history.  Star City News
