BUSINESS NEWS

  • The owners of McCord Candies have opened a new store called Old Kenny's in the former Kenny's Shoe Repair building at 2100 Main St, offering retro-vintage decor and McCord favorites alongside other retro treats. They said Old Kenny's—designed as a community gateway to downtown—will work with local businesses and may add a thrift store and coffee bar as it evolves.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • A play inspired by C.S. Lewis’ WWII experiences—exploring how Christianity and war shaped his works like The Chronicles of Narnia—will be performed at Loeb Playhouse on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. by Fellowship for Performing Arts.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue Women in Engineering held a workshop on Monday for East Tippecanoe Middle School students to learn about spacesuit technology and design new equipment. The sixth graders built 3D cubes while wearing oven mitts—testing suit limitations—and then created glove designs to improve dexterity.  Star City News
  • Purdue’s BioTrain program named seven graduate students as fellows to receive three semesters of hands-on training in biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The initiative—developed with Heartland BioWorks, BioCrossroads and Ivy Tech Community College—is part of a federally funded Tech Hub that will boost economic development in Indiana.  Star City News
  • In 30 days, representatives from Purdue University will join a 15-person crew on an expedition to the South Pacific to search for Amelia Earhart’s missing Lockheed Electra. They will fly from the Amelia Earhart Terminal at Purdue University Airport on Oct. 30 — meet with team members in Majuro before using remote sensing and underwater excavation on Nikumaroro, returning around Nov. 21.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Count Us IN filed a public records request Monday asking for all communications on redistricting between Gov. Mike Braun’s administration and White House employees since August 1—this request seeks to reveal any pressure on state funding or projects linked to congressional map changes.  WLFI
  • Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook urging drivers to be patient when sharing the road with farmers’ equipment—farmers are clearing fields before the weather cools and wild animals may cross. Local residents said they understand and will drive carefully around the heavy machinery.  Star City News
  • Sen. Jim Banks introduced a bipartisan bill that would give communities like Carmel, Lawrence, Noblesville, Westfield and Zionsville their own ZIP codes—aiming to clarify mail delivery and reduce errors. Local leaders support the bill as it would improve service and clearly define community boundaries.  WLFI

  • Purdue women's basketball freshman guard Hila Karsh moved to West Lafayette from Israel after delays caused by conflict at home — her strong 3-point shooting in practice has impressed coaches and teammates.
