- ➤ Nearly one in six children in Tippecanoe County do not always know when they will have their next meal, and the Hunger Hike will be held Sunday at Riehle Plaza to support them. Lafayette Urban Ministry — Food Finders Food Bank — and the St. Thomas Center are organizing the walk with pre-walk activities at 1 p.m. and the hike starting at 2:15 p.m. to reach a $115,000 goal. - ➤ Lafayette Urban Ministry, Food Finders Food Bank, and the St. Thomas Center are teaming up for the Hunger Hike this Sunday at Riehle Plaza to raise funds for kids facing food insecurity in Tippecanoe County. The event begins with Zumba at 1 p.m. and a walk at 2:15 p.m. — groups hope to reach a $115,000 goal, with $76,000 already raised. WLFI

- ➤ With autumn nearly here, multiple fall events are planned in Greater Lafayette to offer corn mazes, haunted houses, farm rides and live music; for example, Exploration Acres features a bicentennial corn maze (with pumpkin patches, wagon rides and games) while other locations host festive vendor events and spooky attractions. - ➤ The Tippecanoe County Historical Association has launched its annual fundraising campaign to preserve historic documents and artifacts, bring in speakers, and fund historical markers. Donations are accepted online + the campaign supports its goal to save local history. Star City News

- ➤ Pacers Sports & Entertainment CEO Mel Raines will speak at Purdue University for the Presidential Lecture Series on Oct. 2 at Fowler Hall in the Stewart Center, and the lecture is free and open to the public. Star City News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation is seeking 10 more volunteers to join its Sampling Blitz to test the river’s water quality in three-hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — the project continues on Saturday with online training available for volunteers of all ages and experience levels. - ➤ Lafayette Station Shopping Center’s vacant Big Lots space may soon host Fun City, an indoor adventure park with trampolines, foam pits, ball pits, obstacle courses, slides and jungle gyms—its proposed rezone was approved by the Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission—and the Lafayette City Council will vote on the change on October 6—if the rezoning passes, the park will bring new activity to the area. - ➤ The West Lafayette Fire Department celebrated Shawn Leuck and Lieutenant Ben Jones for reaching 20 years of service by awarding them certificates—an honor that shows their dedication to protecting the community. The department expressed its gratitude as the firefighters continue to serve Lafayette. Star City News
- ➤ The Tippecanoe County Area Plan Commission approved new rules limiting gas station construction in Lafayette by restricting sites to specific commercial zones, increasing the canopy setback from property lines, and requiring a decommissioning plan. The rules also prohibit stations within 5,500 feet of an existing station and 500 feet of residential areas—guidelines that will go to a final vote by city and county officials in October. - ➤ Lawmakers set to add work rules for Medicaid beneficiaries next summer will delay the changes until 2027 because federal rules under the Big, Beautiful Bill require all expansion enrollees to meet these requirements—state officials said they are still waiting for further federal approvals on other parts of the health care plan.
