- ➤ The Columbian Park Zoo is hosting its annual Boo at the Zoo event from October 17th through 19th with costume contests, a Halloween train ride and character meet and greets for young children—tickets cost $8 online and the zoo expects nearly 6,000 visitors over the three days. WLFI
- ➤ Around 400 people gathered on Purdue's campus to mourn conservative activist Charlie Kirk—who was shot on Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah State University—and then held a priest-led service at St. Thomas Aquinas that ended with a candlelight vigil across Memorial Mall. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Imagination Station will host its 24th annual 'Hands on Transportation' event on Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm, offering more than 30 vehicles for public viewing—visitors will see a firetruck, tractor, police car, city bus and meet Lightning McQueen. Star City News
- ➤ Purdue fans in West Lafayette will have the chance to bid on exclusive memorabilia and experiences—including a behind-the-scenes look at Mackey Arena to watch a men's basketball practice, meet Head Coach Matt Painter, and tour the arena—as part of a silent auction supporting United Way of Greater Lafayette. Bidding will be available online until Tuesday, September 30. WLFI

- ➤ Banda Filharmonica Vientos Regionales borrowed instruments and solved visa issues to perform at the Tippecanoe Latino Festival on Sept. 13—despite storm warnings. The festival featured traditional Mexican music and dance and included a performance by the Purdue Baile Folklorico club. Journal & Courier
- ➤ The Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department will host a screening of Hocus Pocus at Loeb Stadium on Oct. 10—tickets cost $3. Star City News
- ➤ The Haan Museum of Indiana Art will host its final Bicentennial Tea Party this Sunday from 2-4 p.m. The event features custom teas and small bites—tickets cost $50 for members and $60 for non-members with limited availability requiring registration. Star City News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Indiana soybean farmers are facing lower prices and higher production costs as China is not buying their record-yield crops amid ongoing trade tensions. Jason Buck of the Tippecanoe County Farm Bureau said farmers will seek new buyers in Europe and Asia and hope for a future trade deal to boost domestic use — such as for biofuel. Star City News

- ➤ Purdue University reported that its freshman class for fall fell to 8,914 students on West Lafayette after 86,953 applications were received, making it the most selective incoming class in recent history—out-of-state acceptance dropped to 39% and some international students delayed enrollment. The university noted that new housing is expected next semester to accommodate future students. Journal & Courier

- ➤ Purdue's fourth annual no-cost vaccine clinic will be held on Sept 23 at the Purdue Co-Rec to offer free shots to both Purdue students and Lafayette residents—organizers from Purdue Pharmacy, Public Health and the IU School of Medicine plan the event after giving 1300 vaccines last year. Interested folks can register online, and another clinic is scheduled for Oct 28 if they cannot attend. Star City News
- ➤ Franciscan Health Lafayette is offering free AED packages to eligible nonprofits in Carroll, Montgomery, Benton, Fountain, Jasper, Newton, Tippecanoe, Warren and White counties. Eligible organizations will receive one to three AEDs per site along with cabinets, emergency kits and CPR training for up to five people—aimed at saving lives during cardiac arrests. WLFI
