COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today in Lafayette, Ken Dillman, 49, and his son Keith, 18, held flags on an Interstate overpass near Eisenhower Road to remember the Sept. 11 victims—drivers honked and waved as they passed. The tradition began seven years ago when Ken started the memorial and Keith joined after a trip to Washington DC—he says this act keeps patriotism alive.  Journal & Courier
  • Mayor Roswarski and Lafayette residents attended a documentary screening on food insecurity at Food Finders Food Bank—where panel members discussed ways to help families get healthy food. Panel speakers from Food Finders, Lafayette Transitional Housing Center and Feeding Indiana's Hungry shared their views on needed changes.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette will hold an Information Day on Sept. 26 from 1–3 p.m. where school representatives will answer questions about registration, curriculum, and financial aid while giving tours and accepting applications for 2026 admissions.  Star City News
  • In April, conservative activist Charlie Kirk visited Purdue before he was shot at a similar event at Utah Valley University, and his death sparked campus discussions on the safety of guest speaker events—students expressed mixed views on security measures. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tippecanoe County is eligible for USDA Emergency Conservation Assistance after farmland was damaged by the June 18 tornado, with approved applicants potentially receiving up to 75% of restoration costs for debris removal and fence repair (applications opened Monday and will close Nov. 10).  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • In August the CDC reported COVID-19 test rates reached 11.6%—the highest since September 2024—and local residents voiced worry about future vaccine access as health officials have not yet provided full details. The CDC recommends the vaccine for most adults and stresses its importance for seniors.  Star City News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Exploration Acres' 22-acre corn maze opened today with a Tippecanoe County bicentennial theme and offers hayrides, pumpkin picking and fire pit rentals for families. It will be open on weekends until Oct. 26—tickets can be bought on the Exploration Acres website.  Star City News

  • Carroll and Delphi will compete in the 31st Bacon Bowl football game today plus the rivalry, which began in 1972, honors the county's pork packing heritage with a trophy introduced in 1994; coaches say the close scores and strong local support show why the contest has become a generational event.  Journal & Courier
  • Ethan Trent earned a scholarship at Purdue by impressing coach Barry Odom with his hard work and grit—stepping out of his late brother Tyler’s shadow and starting in the first two games this season.
