COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two anonymous brothers in Lafayette have organized cash hunts by hiding money in public spots and posting clues on social media. They have secured local business sponsorships to grow the cash prizes (up to $260) as part of their ongoing charitable project.  Journal & Courier
  • Today, Food Finders CEO Kier Crites Muller and Lafayette Urban Ministries Director Wes Tillet warned that cuts to federal benefits have left nearly 90,000 people food insecure in our area, including 30,000 in Tippecanoe County with 6,700 children—straining local food programs.  Star City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, Lafayette will celebrate its 20th Annual Germanfest at St. Boniface from 4 to 11 p.m.—the festival will feature live polka music, German food and drinks, and carnival rides and games for children. Organizers say the event honors German culture and is a long-standing fall tradition.  Star City News

  • The West Lafayette Community School Corporation is asking local residents to give feedback on the old Happy Hollow Elementary building to help shape plans for its future use.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County commissioners have extended the water pumping moratorium until September 2026 to block the state’s proposed LEAP pipeline project — which would move water from Tippecanoe County to Lebanon.  Star City News
  • Today the Lafayette City Council approved an ordinance that lets residents raise hens within the city—supporters say the move will provide fresh food and help reduce reliance on large stores.  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mental Health America in the Wabash Valley Region is holding suicide prevention events during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month to help people learn how to spot warning signs and talk with those at risk—its two-day ASIST workshops give essential tools for intervention. The program welcomes professionals and community members and runs throughout September.  Star City News
