  • The West Lafayette Fire Department reminded off-campus students to check smoke alarms monthly, avoid unattended flames, and keep exits clear to ensure safe evacuation. They also urged residents to prepare a safety plan — a proactive step for preventing fire hazards.  Star City News
  • Remington raised $1 million to build a playground for children with disabilities — officials said planning is underway and construction will begin soon for local kids to enjoy a new, accessible play area.  Star City News
  • Seniors in Greater Lafayette received a $5,000 Duke Energy Foundation grant that provided 30 air conditioners and 100 fans through Tippecanoe Senior Services — the items were given out within one hour after many lined up hours in advance. The program helped seniors beat the heat.  WLFI

  • Purdue University Professor Eugene Spafford said new cybersecurity techniques for sensing systems may help keep power plants, nuclear reactors — and even satellites — safer from online threats. He noted that AI can give false answers, so trained experts must check the systems to prevent vulnerabilities.  WLFI
  • Freshmen are moving into Purdue early before classes begin next Monday as students adjust to campus life and parents express mixed feelings about their children starting college—some students bring local experience while others come from far away, including Boston.   • Purdue’s Chipshub has been named the NSF Chip Design Hub and will receive $7M over five years to expand its online chip design training platform—engaging students and faculty at 100 universities and addressing a national semiconductor engineer shortage.  Star City News
