- ➤ Duke Energy and Tippecanoe Senior Services will offer free air conditioners and fans at Northend Community Center Gym next week from 9 a.m. to noon on August 18—supplies are limited on a first come first served basis to help residents stay cool during the summer heat. Star City News
- ➤ Gabriel Hurt, a 10-year-old boy who is hearing impaired and autistic, was safely located after a nearly 12-hour search in a large cornfield in Tippecanoe Township. Multiple agencies — including local fire, sheriff, Purdue University Police, and state police — worked together to bring him home, where medics evaluated him unharmed. Star City News

- ➤ An inmate in his 30s from Monticello died Tuesday night at Tippecanoe County Jail after officers found him unresponsive and attempted aid — Indiana State Police and county sheriff officials are investigating his death with a forensic autopsy scheduled for Thursday — in Lafayette. - ➤ Indiana State Police will increase patrols during the second half of August—aiming to reduce traffic deaths—by urging drivers to arrange a sober ride and asking the public to take keys from intoxicated friends and report suspected drunk drivers. WLFI
- ➤ The Indiana Department of Transportation will start bridge work on I-65 near Battle Ground on August 20, causing lane and ramp closures at State Road 43. The project will continue into September—weather permitting. Star City News
- ➤ State Rep. Craig Haggard launched his challenge against incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Baird in the 4th Congressional District after a campaign event in Plainfield on Aug. 12. Haggard accused Baird's mailers of hinting at a succession plan and reported strong fundraising ahead of the May primary—promising to work hard for his district regardless of who runs.
