- ➤ Jason Fletcher, a teen from Jefferson High School, began visiting Lafayette Station 7 after a bike repair and formed a friendship with Lieutenant Ben Bumgarner—who mentors him using a conversation guide created by a school official—to get advice during his visits. Star City News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Purdue University unveiled the $12.7 million Amelia Earhart Terminal at Purdue Airport on August 8 during a ribbon-cutting attended by about a hundred people + marking a milestone project. United Airways partner SkyWest will expand flights to Chicago more than fivefold + offering more travel choices for locals. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Claire's filed for its second bankruptcy on Aug. 6 and listed over 1,100 stores for potential closure. Eighteen Claire's and Icing stores will close on Sept. 7, including the Tippecanoe Mall location in Lafayette, as the company seeks a buyer for about 800 remaining stores. Journal & Courier

- ➤ Gabriel Hurt, the 10-year-old boy missing from West Lafayette since last night, was found safe this morning in a cornfield (the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department and local police led the search) (other agencies assisted in locating him). WLFI
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Civic Youth Theatre debuted a documentary play written and performed by local youth that honors Lafayette's bicentennial by using interviews, historical documents and community input (celebrating the city's 200th birthday). Star City News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette School Corporation’s safety and security director Mark Roberts advised drivers to slow down near schools and reminded parents to leave early so kids can cross safely, plus he warned drivers to stop for buses with flashing lights and extended arms as traffic increases with school in session. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ CityBus launched new routes today to improve service by adding stops at Ivy Tech, near Beck Lane and at Walmart, with fare-free rides continuing until August 23—officials said a board discussion may lead to raising single ride fares from $1 to $2 and adjusting pass prices next January. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ In Lafayette, home sale prices stayed steady from last year even though homes sold in about six days—only two days longer than last July. However, closed sales dropped by 13.1 percent with 26 fewer homes sold, while pending sales and inventory increased in Central Indiana. WLFI
