  • Greater Lafayette Family Shelter has launched its first-ever Christmas in July Giving Week to raise essential funds for shelter operations. The online fundraiser runs through Friday, August 1 — donations can be made through the shelter’s social media pages.  WLFI
  • Food Finders Food Bank received 40,000 pounds of mac and cheese from Land O’Lakes + a $6,000 donation from Keystone Cooperative last week to help fight hunger across Lafayette and its 16-county service area.  Star City News

CRIME NEWS

  • Greyhouse Coffee workers on Northwestern Avenue noticed a bank account error last Friday after an employee clicked a phishing email, and West Lafayette police reported a scam that cost several thousand dollars is under investigation—detectives are working on the case.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tippecanoe County seniors in the Class of 2026 can apply for scholarships offered by the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette and the Lilly Endowment + the awards support students' pursuit of higher education. Applicants must submit online by September 10 for a chance to win one of the three scholarships + local efforts to boost education continue.  Star City News
  • Purdue is launching a certificate and an online master’s degree in space engineering for students in non-space majors and working professionals. The programs will let students study engineering, data-driven decision-making and research that support aerospace careers—opening new learning paths at Purdue.  Star City News

  • The ACLU said ICE arrests in Indiana have increased, with data showing that 23% of those taken into custody last month did not face any criminal charges—Chris Daley criticized Governor Braun for not protecting innocent people. Daley warned that many detainees face minor or old charges and that overcrowded detention centers, including in Clay County, are hurting local communities and the economy.  Star City News

  • Ivy Tech Community College Lafayette and NAMI West Central Indiana will host free Hope & Healing: Suicide Prevention & Growth Beyond Grief on August 6 at 6 p.m. in Ivy Hall Auditorium—local mental health experts will offer advice on suicide prevention and ways to find strength through grief.  Journal & Courier

  • Rossville graduate and Purdue wrestler Noah Weaver—a two-time state champion—was voted J&C Reader's Choice Male Athlete of the Year after being named Journal & Courier Male Student Athlete of the Year in June. Weaver said he nearly quit wrestling as an eighth grader but credited his father's help for building the confidence that led him to win state titles.  Journal & Courier
  • The 49th Junior PGA Championships begin today at Purdue University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex and will run through Friday as 312 amateur golfers aged 18 and under compete in a 72‐hole format—featuring nine top-ranked girls and nine top-ranked boys including Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods.  WLFI
