Good morning, Lafayette.

Indiana public universities cut degree programs because there were not enough students as part of Gov. Mike Braun's effort to focus on in-demand fields; these changes were planned ahead of a new state law that took effect July 1.

This decision affects campuses including Lafayette and others around the state.

West Lafayette will break ground on a new $71 million public safety center on July 15 that will combine the existing police station with a modern fire department building as it replaces the old Fire Station 2 and adds training, decontamination, and parking spaces.

The facility is set to open in summer 2028.

Tri-County senior pitcher and first baseman Grayson Schneider was named the 2025 Journal & Courier Small Schools Baseball Player of the Year after striking out 125 batters — his changeup was sharpened by coach Denny Stitz, who coached him since his freshman year, and he helped lead the team to its first IHSAA sectional title since 2011.

Daniel Jacobsen earned a gold medal with USA Basketball at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland before returning to West Lafayette after recovering from a broken tibia last November.

Purdue basketball said he will play off the bench—his shot blocking is expected to help as the team begins the season.
