Good morning, Lafayette. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 19th of June.
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Lafayette man, Joseph Dale Loy, 45, was charged with meth dealing and other drug offenses after Tippecanoe County officers found over 46 grams of meth and related paraphernalia hidden in his attic on June 17 — his case, enhanced by past felony convictions, is pending in Tippecanoe County Court. Star City News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Indiana homeowners who invest in solar panels, batteries and energy-saving upgrades may lose up to 30% tax credits if the federal One Big Beautiful Bill goes forward, raising project costs and risking about 4,000 solar jobs in the state. The bill was approved by seven GOP representatives and is now in the Senate, and critics say it will hurt families and small businesses — actions that could slow clean energy efforts locally. Journal & Courier
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rainbow Trout Solar will hold an open house on June 24 at the Lafayette History Center from noon to 2 p.m. to discuss its solar farm project—despite past county opposition—and the company will present its plans ahead of the zoning appeals hearing on June 25. Star City News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting in July, Indiana will set a legal THC limit of 5 nanograms measured by a saliva test for DUIs and require police to use suspect lineups with similar features — Tippecanoe County Sheriff Bob Goldsmith said his officers already follow these practices. The changes come after last year's data showed many serious crashes involved THC along with other substances. Star City News
- ➤ Director Adam Alson said on Tuesday that the state will cut preschool enrollment from 6,000 to 2,500 seats and lower provider rates to manage funding after past administrations grew the program too much—this change comes as lawmakers chose to fund private school vouchers, leaving many families worried about childcare access. The policy shifts may lead to a reduction in care for thousands of children and more families on waiting lists. WLFI
- ➤ The Erie Street left turn lane onto 18th Street is closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday for stormwater system work—drivers are advised to use caution around workers and equipment. Star City News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette’s John Purdue Block construction crews will change their schedule to pour cement at 3 a.m. starting June 23 to counter rising morning temperatures and high winds. Meyer Najem warned residents might hear early noise—but crews remain focused on safety and quality. Star City News
