ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette drivers say gas prices are 70 cents higher than last Memorial Day, causing many families to cancel long trips and adjust their travel plans. Several residents plan to stay local or fly instead for the holiday. Star City News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Harrison High School seniors shared memories from school events and talked about their future plans as graduation nears. Three seniors will attend Purdue University while one will enroll at IU this fall. Star City News
- ➤ At this spring commencement, Purdue honored alumni Drew Brees and Tim Cahill with honorary doctorates; Brees earned a Doctor of Business from the Mitch Daniels School of Business while Cahill received a Doctor of Engineering from the College of Engineering. Star City News
- ➤ Purdue University President Mung Chiang will step down in coming weeks to become president at Northwestern University effective July 1, and Purdue First Lady Dr. YingKei Hui will join as an internal medicine physician (a leadership change announced by the board) while an interim president is to be named soon. - ➤ The Indiana Department of Transportation says County Road 750 N near Rossville is closed for a Cripe Run bridge replacement that began May 15 and will last into fall - motorists should use alternate routes while access to local homes remains available. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Lafayette is reminding residents that Memorial Day will delay trash and recycling pickups on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week — Friday pickups will run as scheduled while residents have their bins at the curb by 6 a.m. Star City News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Home With Hope has opened a new supported recovery treatment center in Lafayette for men, women and families; the facility replaces an older building to help residents integrate back into the community, according to CEO Seth Warren. Star City News

- ➤ Purdue Baseball lost 8 to 4 to Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament opener Tuesday (after the Spartans built an early 7 to 0 lead). The Boilermakers will face Illinois today at 10 a.m. in the first elimination contest of the six day tournament. WLFI
