- ➤ A Tippecanoe School Corp. bus was involved in an accident at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on Indiana 25 and County Road 750 East (north of Buck Creek) (with no students on board). Journal & Courier
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tickets are on sale for the Lafayette Bicentennial Costume Ball scheduled for Saturday, June 28 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds Coliseum. The ball will feature performances by the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra's String Quartet, Voyageur Ancient Fife and Drum Corp, Audrey Johnson and the Lafayette Big Swing Band—buffet dinner is provided by Outpost Catering and desserts come from Sweet Revolution Bake Shop; tickets cost $65 per person or $500 for a reserved table and must be purchased by May 30. - ➤ Arts funding from the READI fund is set to provide millions for projects including murals and historic restorations that will enhance arts and culture throughout the region. Community workshops are scheduled from May 19 to May 22 in local counties—allowing residents to share their visions for future improvements. Star City News

- ➤ 9th and Main Street in Lafayette is closed on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for underground utility construction that will finish on Friday, May 23—and the road will remain open on nights and weekends. Star City News
- ➤ INDOT warned local residents today to ignore scam texts that claim unpaid tolls and instructed them to delete the messages and report incidents to the FTC or Internet Crime Complaint Center—state agencies do not send such notices via text. Star City News
- ➤ Today, Mayor Tony Roswarski and sixth-grade mayor Natalie met during Lafayette's bicentennial as students from Sunnyside Intermediate School presented a poster of founder William Digby—highlighting his role in acquiring Lafayette's original land along the Wabash River; the mayor said the artwork may be displayed in McAllister Park. - ➤ Brandi Christiansen, president of the Wabash Valley Region of Mental Health America, said the 988 Suicide Crisis Lifeline connects people in crisis to trained staff. She added that Mental Health Awareness Month highlights signs such as prolonged isolation — a symptom that if it lasts more than two weeks signals a need for professional help — and that many financial barriers to care have been removed.
