COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office will support the 'Cop On a Rooftop' fundraiser at Dunkin' on State Road 26 in Lafayette this Friday from 5 a.m. to noon to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes. Deputies will be there to engage locals & build community support.  Star City News
  • The Lafayette Police Department is hiding velcro patches for a National Police Week scavenger hunt running May 11-15—community members today can follow clues on its Facebook or Instagram pages to find a patch and claim an Amazon gift card prize at the Public Safety Center.  Star City News

  • West Lafayette businesses including Von’s Shops and Triple XXX Family Restaurant are preparing for increased traffic as Purdue graduation ceremonies later this week bring returning alumni and families downtown + local owners expect the celebratory visits to boost sales.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting July 27, LUM Camp moves to Jameson Camp to serve 84 kids with a summer experience mostly funded by donations so that families pay only $5 per child. Camp director Marlena Edmondson oversees a program featuring swimming, arts + crafts, and canoeing to build confidence.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Transportation said the speed limit on Sagamore Parkway eastbound lanes will drop from 55 mph to 45 mph starting May 13 between Happy Hollow Road and the Wabash River Bridge. Crews will install new signs with no lane closures (weather permitting).  Journal & Courier
  • A federal audit said Purdue’s nearly $2 million AI project to help former inmates re-enter society lacked proper controls, which led to stop-work orders and missed goals. Purdue officials in West Lafayette disagree with the report—stating they followed NIJ guidance throughout the project.  Journal & Courier
  • Mayor Roswarski read a proclamation declaring Food Allergy Awareness Week, May 11–16 as part of National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. He aims to raise awareness of common allergens like peanuts, eggs, and milk to help families, schools, and community venues remain safe.  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lafayette Daybreak Rotary Club hosted its annual Toast to Mental Health event with live music, food, auctions and resource booths featuring Mental Health America+WVR, NAMI West Central Indiana and Willowstone Family Services. City officials thanked the club for shining a light on mental health during Mental Health Awareness Month.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue center Trey Kaufman-Renn was invited to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago and will join teammate Braden Smith, along with three other G League standouts, for workouts and scrimmages at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday and Thursday. He impressed scouts with strong offseason performances.  Journal & Courier
  • McCutcheon is hosting the boys volleyball sectional tournament this week with local teams competing for a spot in the Peru Regional scheduled for May 23. Today at 6 p.m., Harrison (23-6) faces Lafayette Jeff as the tournament kicks off.  Journal & Courier
