- ➤ Lafayette letter carriers from the National Association of Letter Carriers will join the Stamp Out Hunger food drive this Saturday. Residents are asked to leave a bag of nonperishable food by their mailbox as partners including the U.S. Postal Service + United Way work together to help reach a goal of 50,000 pounds, surpassing last year's 41,000 pounds. - ➤ Former Lafayette businessman Gary Wolfelt died in a plane crash in Ohio earlier this week and his self-written obituary—filled with humorous reflections on his many near-death mishaps and a heartfelt farewell—will be honored with a Celebration of Life on May 19 at Duncan Hall as his family asks for donations to local animal rescues in lieu of flowers. - ➤ Eliasard Moneus pleaded guilty to murdering his 3-month-old son and attacking his wife with a tire iron in a Lafayette apartment+ police later found his infant in a bucket of liquid laundry detergent, and he will face a sentencing hearing on July 1 that could result in 65 to 95 years in prison and possible deportation.
