  • Food Finders’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive lets Lafayette residents donate non-perishable food by leaving items at their mailbox this Saturday + mail carriers will collect the donations for delivery.  Star City News
  • On Monday, the Wea Township Fire Department rescued ducklings trapped in a storm drain and returned them to a nearby pond.  Star City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music star Dustin Lynch will perform at Loeb Stadium on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale today online using promo code LOEB26 or by calling the box office at (765-742-5664).  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teacher Appreciation Week runs May 4-8 with local restaurants & retailers offering discounts and freebies to educators with valid school IDs. Although Teacher Appreciation Day was May 5, deals such as free food at Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s continue to honor teachers this week.  Journal & Courier
  • Yesterday, the Indiana High School Athletic Association voted to allow high school athletes to monetize their name, image and likeness (only if they are unaffiliated with their school), making Indiana the 47th state to permit such earnings. This decision could open more opportunities for local student athletes.  Star City News
  • Tippecanoe School Corporation announced Alison Jordan as its new Nutrition Services Director to replace Ashley Karshen. Jordan, who worked with J.T.M. Food Group, will oversee meals at 20 district schools + begin her role later this month pending school board approval on May 13.  WLFI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Lafayette council approved an ordinance on May 5 limiting commercial solar developments to 400 acres (runs at least one mile apart and 500 feet from property lines) and capping total acreage at 6,000, a compromise after months of debate; officials said no compliant proposals have emerged yet.  Journal & Courier
  • Lafayette City Council approved historic designation for City Hall and the Long Center for the Performing Arts on May 5, making them the first city-owned buildings to be protected. The vote is part of a long preservation effort that will require any exterior work on these downtown landmarks + set an example for future projects.  Journal & Courier

  • Freshman Anna Moore is breaking records with 61 RBIs and 14 home runs this season at Bittinger Stadium while balancing engineering studies as Purdue readies for the Big Ten Tournament.
