- ➤ The federal government resumed collections on about 5 million student loans that have not been collected since March 2020, starting today. - ➤ Indiana Senate District 22 will have its first contested GOP primary in over 25 years when Richard Bagsby launches his campaign Friday in Lafayette—challenging longtime incumbent Sen. Ron Alting who has held the seat since 1998. Star City News
- ➤ Norfolk Southern will repair rail crossings in Lafayette that will close 9th Street near Armstrong Park from May 19th to 23rd, Concord Road between Daugherty Drive and Olympia Drive from May 27th to 30th, and South 18th Street between Brady Lane and Normandy Drive from June 2nd to 4th + drivers should plan alternate routes during the work. - ➤ FDA announced that tomatoes sold in 14 states have been recalled for possible salmonella contamination—Ray & Mascari Inc. issued a recall for 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes sold through Gordon Food Service while Williams Farms Repack recalled other lots sold between April 23 and 28. - ➤ The Tippecanoe Sports Collectibles Show will be held on May 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds, where vendors will buy, sell and trade memorabilia. Fans can get autographs from sports figures including Ryan Berning, Chris Clopton, Joey Elliott, Troy Lewis, Dave Schellhase and Everette Stephens—admission is $5 with children 12 and under free and the first 150 visitors receiving gift bags. - ➤ During the spring, Purdue football special teams added transfers from the portal as coach James Shibest sought more help in the kicking game—Connecticut kicker and punter Seth Turner, who has three years of eligibility remaining, joined the roster following former Washington punter Jack McCallister and former Georgia longsnapper Luke Raab.
