  • The Lafayette Farmers Market season starts today with 120 vendors, including 33 new ones, drawing locals along Main Street as small businesses gear up for growth. Greater Lafayette Commerce organizes the market to support the thriving community.  Star City News
  • Lafayette earned a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists for creating safer bike routes and public paths that serve residents of all ages. It joins over 400 communities recognized for improving local transportation.  WLFI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • At the finals of the New Venture Challenge on May 1, Purdue University student startups shared $50,000 in cash awards from the Purdue Innovates Incubator. Winning teams *including echoSURE Inc. and VitaWave Tech Inc.* plan to use the funds to boost product development.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cole Elementary School in Lafayette earned Tree Campus recognition for the fourth consecutive year from the Arbor Day Foundation on Thursday, Apr. 30. The school’s outdoor program builds environmental awareness with hands-on learning & local partnerships.  Journal & Courier
  • Parents in the Lafayette Catholic School System have launched the Wait Until 8th pledge to delay smartphone use among elementary students until the end of eighth grade. The St. Carlo Parent Network will host Sip and Chats soon at local schools (families may join a support network for digital choices).  Journal & Courier
  • Tri-County School Corporation students will race electric go-karts at a statewide contest, starting May 8th at Greater Lafayette Career Academy for race prep and moving May 9th to Subaru of Indiana Automotive Test Track for drag, figure-eight, and time trial races (supported by an Indiana Manufacturing Competitiveness Center grant).  WLFI
