ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Indiana State Police awarded Tanna McKinley and Siri Sahoo a Lifesaving Award Certificate for rescuing an elderly man from a burning vehicle during a rollover crash on southbound I-65 in White County on October 10 (at 8:21 p.m.) with no injuries reported. WLFI
- ➤ At 4 p.m. Thursday, a northbound Purdue Boilermaker Special blew a tire—crossed into southbound lanes on U.S. 52 and struck the car of 23-year-old Lafayette resident Savannah Mason, who died at the scene as Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello confirmed. Journal & Courier

- ➤ Forbes released its 2025 New Ivies list—ranking 10 public and 10 private colleges as employer views shift—and Purdue University and Notre Dame made the list for their growing appeal to future professionals. Journal & Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eight international students in Indiana, including six from Purdue University, filed an ACLU lawsuit after their F-1 visas were terminated in early April and then reported as active. Attorneys are seeking formal assurance from the U.S. government & a temporary restraining order hearing is scheduled for today to let the students remain while the case proceeds. Journal & Courier
- ➤ The intersection of South 9th Street and County Road 430 South was closed beginning Monday for sewer repairs and remains closed through May 5. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes during the work—part of the city's ongoing infrastructure improvements. Star City News
- ➤ Indiana State Police Trooper Mitchell McKinney was honored for his exceptional service in 2024—earning the Lafayette Post Trooper Award, the Lafayette District DUI Award and the ISP DUI Life Award after making 961 traffic stops, 171 criminal investigations, 1,430 calls for service and 47 crash investigations while removing 63 impaired drivers from the roadways. - ➤ Indiana State Police recognized Detective David Vido, First Sergeant Christopher Cecil, Master Trooper Brian Harshman and Lt. Jerry Holeman for their work during the Delphi homicide investigation—each officer was honored for specific contributions such as evidence review, digital forensics and leadership from February 14 through December 20. The recognition underscores their role in the investigation into the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German. WLFI

- ➤ Warmer weather is driving up tick activity in Lafayette as the Indiana Department of Health warned residents to treat clothing with permethrin and use insect repellents with DEET or picaridin to avoid infections like ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and alpha-gal syndrome—one fatal ehrlichiosis case was reported in Floyd County this month and two deaths occurred statewide last year. - ➤ CareSource and the Indiana Immunization Coalition are holding a free community health fair and vaccine clinic at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds today from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.—the event offers vaccines, health screenings, haircuts, and dental and vision checks with free bus passes for the first 20 riders and extra giveaways for the first 50 people.
