  • Exploration Acres in Lafayette planted over 300,000 tulip bulbs in a butterfly shape for Tulip Days, with a delay on Saturday due to rain. Co-owner Tim Fitzgerald said the season may extend to May 7 if the weather holds — though high costs and possible EU tariffs might end future tulip seasons.  Journal & Courier
  • The Master Gardener Association of Tippecanoe County will host its annual Garden Expo and Plant Sale at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds in Lafayette on April 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., where dozens of vendor booths and thousands of plants will be available for purchase with a $2.00 admission fee (free for attendees under 18).  Star City News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old Lafayette resident Joshua Jay Williams-Taylor fired his handgun at about 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday in the 400 block of Romig Street after a road rage dispute and domestic issues - police reported no injuries, the firearm was seized, and he was held on charges of criminal recklessness and possession of marijuana.  Journal & Courier

  • Senate Bill 1 is meant to ease property taxes but state Sen. Ron Alting said it instead shifts the tax burden to local income taxes. Local officials in Lafayette and Tippecanoe County are preparing for budget cuts—Lafayette may lose about $1,915,160 next year—and are planning to adjust spending without reducing police or fire services.  Journal & Courier
