- ➤ Last week, Lafayette hosted a blessing ceremony for the new St. Elizabeth Garden as Bishop Timothy Doherty blessed the site (attended by Mayor Roswarski, Franciscan Health staff, and St. Elizabeth sisters). The garden honors the school’s history and provides a green space for students and faculty. Star City News
- ➤ Families will learn injury prevention and safety at Safe Kids Day on Saturday, April 25 at 10 a.m. at the Lafayette Family YMCA as organizers from Franciscan Health Lafayette East, Safe Kids Greater Lafayette and the YMCA offer fire, bike, water and sleep safety demos and CPR first aid training. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Purdue Grand Prix dates back to May 17, 1958 when Purdue students built go-karts using lawnmower and leaf blower engines—now the race features safety roll cages and regulated KT 100 Yamaha engines. Organizers say the event remains a key part of campus culture as another race is planned soon. WLFI

- ➤ West Lafayette faces a growing shortage of child-care teachers after the recent closing of a key day care; local voices say low pay and poor benefits have driven high turnover and stress the need for better worker support (according to community resident Brian Connelly). Journal & Courier
- ➤ Two Purdue students were elected to join the board of the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association; Felicitas Tuku Ewunsoh will serve as vice president of competitions and Erica Tobing as vice president of digital and social media with their terms starting on Sept. 1. - ➤ The West Lafayette Fire Department attends FDIC (one of the largest fire and rescue conferences) in Indianapolis this week. The department is engaging in hands-on training among 30,000 public safety professionals. Star City News

- ➤ Harrison softball parent Lenny Popp brought humor to a recent game by announcing players with a lighthearted style. His playful approach kept the crowd engaged at the local field. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue men's basketball will travel to Vancouver for a series of four games over an 8-to-9-day period in late July after a recent NCAA rule change (teams now can plan yearly foreign tours), a move set to help new freshmen build chemistry. Journal & Courier
- ➤ The Lafayette Fire Support Foundation is hosting its third annual On Fire for Our Fighters 5K Run/Walk set for Sept. 19 at Lafayette Fire Department Station No. 5 with race day registration from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. (The route follows Munger Trail through Munger Park and McCaw Park.)
