Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 20th of April.
Good morning, Lafayette.
The Midwest Regional Climate Center at Purdue University has suspended its climate tools and data services after federal funding was cut on April 17th — leaving Indiana farmers and meteorologists without key weather and drought information.
The center, which served nine Midwest states with data for agriculture and urban planning, awaits replacement funding — that could allow it to resume operation.
Purdue women's basketball signed former Arkansas guard Kiki Smith to join the team in the 2025-26 season — she averaged 10.2 points and hit 40.6% on 3-point shots last season and earned JUCO national champion honors after leading Hutchinson Community College.
Braden Smith hosted a youth basketball camp at McCutcheon High School's Resler Gymnasium on Saturday that welcomed 200 kids—each camper received a personal photo and, for some, signed jerseys and trading cards during drills.
The event quickly reached capacity with a long wait list and highlighted his commitment to inspiring local youth in basketball.
Bradyn Joiner, a redshirt sophomore who started as left guard at Auburn and earned All-SEC freshman team honors, committed late Friday to Purdue football from the transfer portal to boost the offensive line.
The 6-foot-2, 328-pound athlete, once a standout at Auburn High School, will join the Boilermakers this season.
