Good morning, Lafayette. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 20th of April.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Midwest Regional Climate Center at Purdue University has suspended its climate tools and data services after federal funding was cut on April 17th — leaving Indiana farmers and meteorologists without key weather and drought information. The center, which served nine Midwest states with data for agriculture and urban planning, awaits replacement funding — that could allow it to resume operation.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue women's basketball signed former Arkansas guard Kiki Smith to join the team in the 2025-26 season — she averaged 10.2 points and hit 40.6% on 3-point shots last season and earned JUCO national champion honors after leading Hutchinson Community College.  Journal & Courier
  • Braden Smith hosted a youth basketball camp at McCutcheon High School's Resler Gymnasium on Saturday that welcomed 200 kids—each camper received a personal photo and, for some, signed jerseys and trading cards during drills. The event quickly reached capacity with a long wait list and highlighted his commitment to inspiring local youth in basketball.  Journal & Courier
  • Bradyn Joiner, a redshirt sophomore who started as left guard at Auburn and earned All-SEC freshman team honors, committed late Friday to Purdue football from the transfer portal to boost the offensive line. The 6-foot-2, 328-pound athlete, once a standout at Auburn High School, will join the Boilermakers this season.  Journal & Courier
