COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tippecanoe County Farm Bureau advises drivers to slow down behind farm equipment as farmers begin spring planting — drivers should refrain from passing tractors unless they clearly pull aside.  Star City News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Latino Business Expo returns April 24 at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds with food trucks, demos and a taco cook-off while featuring over 60 exhibitors showcasing services from local Latino-owned businesses and other regional companies. The free event, hosted by Greater Lafayette Commerce, offers networking and collaboration opportunities for community members.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Lafayette Live will host live music featuring Michael Kelsey and Friends at Riehle Plaza on April 24 from 6-8 p.m. in the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, where guests may carry drinks from participating businesses.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue University announced its final crew members for Purdue 1, a space mission set to launch in 2027 in West Lafayette. The crew, including Beth Moses + Florence Stahura and three others, will test fluid dynamics in zero gravity and monitor astronaut health.  Journal & Courier
  • Beth McAuliffe, longtime nurse at Earhart Elementary, will be LSC’s new Director of Health Services starting July 1 (she has 14 years of experience with the school corporation).  WLFI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana’s Free Fishing Days allow residents to fish without a license on May 10, June 6-7 and Sept. 26 in state waters, giving local anglers a free opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.  Star City News
  • Robert Suseland of Tippecanoe County Soil and Water Conservation District advises residents to test soil and reduce water use when preparing lawns and gardens, warning that excess fertilizer and herbicides can harm local wildlife & aquatic life. He also mentioned the new invasive plant swap program as a way to protect the environment.  Star City News
  • Indiana DNR says native turtles may be seen crossing roads near wetlands, lakes and rivers during May, June and July. The agency advises motorists to let turtles cross safely — and discourages keeping them as pets unless caught legally with a valid license.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Master Trooper Aaron McCormick retires today after more than 30 years with Indiana State Police in Lafayette. He now plans to bowl and compete on the PBA Tour (continuing a legacy set by his father).  WLFI
  • Tippecanoe County officials revised their opioid grant review process to address conflicts of interest, improve transparency + include more input from people with lived experience using part of $1 million per year from national settlements to support local recovery programs. The changes aim to reduce overdoses and better direct funds.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Freshman shortstop Westin Boyle hit a solo home run to tie the game with Miami on Tuesday as Purdue's baseball team battled on the field; he described the moment (his first collegiate homer) as a boost to team spirit.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue women's basketball announced the signing of Katarína Šedivá + a Slovakian national team guard, to join its 2026 freshman class. She and two other international recruits will arrive in Lafayette this summer.  WLFI
  • Local sports fans may vote for this week's Ivy Tech Journal & Courier Athlete of the Week, honoring top baseball, softball, and track performers from April 6-11. Voters have until noon Saturday to cast their ballots.  Journal & Courier
