COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Camp Tecumseh YMCA will begin major facility upgrades using a $10M Lilly Endowment grant + additional donations to build a new activity center, replace aging cabins, and upgrade aquatics on its Tippecanoe River property. The improvements will expand program capacity for thousands of campers and enhance year-round activities.  Journal & Courier
  • Kona Ice trucks will give free shaved ice on Tax Day, April 15 to help residents relax, and one truck will be stationed at 20 North 6th Street downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Star City News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lafayette restaurants are fighting high food costs by using supper clubs and event bookings to boost weekday business. Two upscale spots near Purdue are aiming to offer a destination dining experience (local restaurateurs say rapid changes are needed) to attract steady customers.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette School Corporation announced the Lafayette Virtual Academy for grades 9-12—opening in the 2026-2027 school year—where students will log in daily to earn six credits per semester, attend required district tests, and miss extracurricular activities with a separate graduation scheduled.  Star City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Indiana Catholic bishops, including Bishop Timothy Doherty (Lafayette), released a pastoral letter today urging Catholics to care for the earth and honor God’s creation.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lafayette Fire Department has received 50 pocket-sized thermal cameras donated by the Lafayette Fire Support Foundation, which will help firefighters detect heat and find victims faster in smoky conditions. LFD Chief Brian Alkire says the new devices will improve safety on the scene (replacing older, larger cameras).  Star City News
  • City officials have approved demolition of the former Hanna Center on North 18th Street — a longtime Black community space — to build a new childcare facility and teaching lab for Ivy Tech and Greater Lafayette Career Academy. The project, funded by the Lily endowment, will replace the historic center.  Star City News
  • Lafayette Police Department is partnering with Spike's K-9 fund to outfit its new police dogs with custom-fitted vests (costing about $3,500 each) for extra protection. Donations can be made online.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Purdue basketball player Camden Heide entered the transfer portal after one season at Texas, where he helped his team reach the Sweet Sixteen. The portal (open through April 21) lets him and teammate Myles Colvin explore new opportunities.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue football holds its free Spring Showcase today at Ross-Ade Stadium with gates opening at 11 a.m. and a scrimmage-style practice beginning at noon. Fans will have designated parking in lots A, C, upper H, R and at the northwest garage (access provided through gates A, D, G, L).  Journal & Courier
