- ➤ Fire crews from Lafayette, Wea and West Lafayette participated in a live fire training exercise on Apr. 9. The training (focused on improving coordination) prepared the teams for effective emergency response. Star City News
- ➤ Dave Dugan will perform comedy at The Stables Event Center on April 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. to raise funds for Cars for Keeps, a nonprofit that helps local families secure vehicles with its no-interest lease-to-own program. Journal & Courier
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ SK Hynix will begin piling work on its site on April 17 to create a stable base for new buildings. Sound barriers have been installed + all equipment will follow the West Lafayette noise ordinance as the project will last several months. Star City News

- ➤ Teacher Chuck Herber is set to retire from Jefferson High School after 40 years of teaching and advising The Booster (an award-winning student newspaper) and he will substitute teach, garden and continue his signature fingertip pushups. Star City News
- ➤ Several local schools were celebrated by the Indiana Department of Education and State Rep. Sheila Klinker for earning a 95% pass rate on the 2025 IREAD exam; schools like Amelia Earhart Elementary + Lafayette Christian were noted for strong literacy. - ➤ Oscar Trujillo was appointed by the Lafayette School Board to fill a vacant seat through 2026. A former Tecumseh teacher and wrestling coach, he brings experience from the Indiana Migrant Education Program (supporting migrant families) as he replaces Chuck Hockema, who stepped down in January. - ➤ Twelve Purdue graduate programs have ranked in the nation’s top ten according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2026 Best Grad Schools edition. - ➤ Lafayette School Corporation will open Lafayette Virtual Academy for high schoolers in the 2026-27 school year. - ➤ On Thursday, Governor Mike Braun suspended the state gas sales tax for 30 days, potentially saving locals about 18 cents per gallon—Lafayette residents paying over $4 per gallon see relief as the governor will review the pause for a possible extension. Star City News

- ➤ Luke Ertel, a Purdue incoming freshman from Mt. Vernon High, won the 86th annual Indiana Mr. Basketball award after leading his team to a state championship. He earned 207 of 230 votes from coaches and media — marking the first time a player from his school has received the honor. WLFI
