  • The Lafayette Fire Department will receive a donation of 50 thermal cameras to help firefighters battle fires more efficiently. Officials say the new equipment will soon boost response times and safety measures in the community.  Star City News
  • A study by KAYAK ranked West Lafayette as one of the most underrated cities, citing a growing food scene, vibrant beer culture & unique architecture that draws visitors to Purdue University. The findings come as more Americans plan shorter weekend getaways in 2026.  WLFI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Construction on the new SK hynix chip factory in West Lafayette is underway as a permit for a temporary power facility, valued at more than $1.2 million, was issued yesterday—this box-shaped unit will provide needed power for office work and welding activities.  Journal & Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local shoppers are preparing for Easter celebrations as record spending is expected with an average of $196 per person, according to the National Retail Federation. Rising candy prices and lower egg costs prompt families to buy treats and plan egg hunts in Lafayette this weekend.  Star City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tippecanoe County residents can swap invasive plants for up to 10 free native trees or shrubs through a program that requires proof of removal (before and after photos) of invasive species. Applications are accepted online until Aug. 1 or until 200 swaps have been requested.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents with new chicken permits are worried because Lafayette’s ordinance lets them keep up to five hens but the one-year sunset rule means the city may change the rules soon (affecting nearly 100 chickens), leaving owners unsure of what will happen next.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue basketball’s all-time 3-point leader Fletcher Loyer and incoming freshman Luke Ertel competed in shootout contests at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Friday, Apr. 3, with Loyer winning the college contest and Ertel prevailing in the high school event ahead of his Purdue debut.  Journal & Courier
  • Braden Smith became Purdue's 30th consensus first-team All-American — his second honor — and is the fourth in school history to earn the accolade. He set records while leading in assists and minutes played.  WLFI
  • Illinois freshman Keaton Wagler scored a record 46 points against Purdue on Jan. 24, sparking his All-American season and propelling the team into today's Final Four game against UConn at 6:09 p.m. ET as he leads in scoring and assists.  Journal & Courier
  • On April 3, a Northern Indiana federal court denied Purdue football player Atium 'Bakyne' Coly's request for an extra season of NCAA eligibility — the court ruled he had provided little evidence, and he remains at Purdue working out ahead of the NFL draft.  Journal & Courier
