COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community leaders from West Lafayette, including Mayor Erin R. Easter, and Lafayette's Mayor Tony Roswarski proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month on Wednesday. Hosted by Tippecanoe CAP, the event provided child safety resources and hotline contacts (1-800-800-5556 and 1-800-4-A-CHILD) for local families.  Star City News
  • Grant's House will hold its 11th annual Grand Slam Celebration on May 1 at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds from 6 to 10:30 p.m. to raise funds for its SOAR autism center project (donations and volunteer sign-ups are requested).  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue student Brooks Boline supported Sen. Todd Young's Student Protection and Success Act, which would cut federal aid to colleges that fail to help 15 percent of graduates repay student loans in three years—pushing schools to pay fees on unpaid loans and redirect funds to serve low-income students.  Journal & Courier
  • Indiana First Lady Maureen Braun announced that Dolly Parton's Imagination Library now offers free monthly books for children under age 5 in all 92 counties (over 140,000 Hoosier children are enrolled) to boost early literacy.  WLFI
  • Students from Purdue’s Space Program watched the Artemis 2 flight Wednesday night and saw it as a sign of renewed space exploration, with hopes that the step paves the way for a lasting lunar presence and future opportunities in space.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Lafayette joined more than 2,800 cities in the Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation on Wednesday, pledging to save 559 billion gallons of water in 2026. Residents can sign up online to protect local waterways.  Star City News
  • INDOT began rehabilitating the Indiana 225 truss bridge over the Wabash River south of Battle Ground with erosion control and right-of-way clearing to prepare for deck replacement. The work will continue through 2028 so motorists should plan alternate routes.  Journal & Courier
  • INDOT will close single lanes on I-65 for patching work from Monday, Apr. 6 along the stretch from State Road 38 in Dayton to State Road 47 near Lebanon. The closures will last about one week (weather permitting) and drivers should use caution around work zones.  WLFI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue Football wrapped up its eighth Spring Ball practice Thursday morning in Lafayette, preparing for its upcoming Spring Showcase at Ross-Ade Stadium. The running backs, led by Assistant Head Coach Cornell Ford, have adapted to changes with new transfers and standout performances by Antonio Harris.  WLFI
  • Purdue’s tough play in a Big Ten Tournament game on March 15 gave Michigan a needed wake-up call that refocused the team for a Final Four game against Arizona at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue football coach Barry Odom said after spring practice on March 31 that the team made progress and is preparing for the upcoming season at Purdue. His update highlighted ongoing improvements in team strategy and performance.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue sophomore Tyler Wills was named Big Ten Diver of the Year and his coach David Boudia was honored as Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year after awards were announced on Thursday at NCAA and conference meets (continuing Purdue's proud diving tradition).  WLFI
