COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wildcat Creek Winery hosts Purrs & Pours, a kitten adoption event in partnership with the Humane Society for Greater Lafayette on April 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. at 3233 E. 200 N. Guests join a paint-and-sip class and may receive a free glass of wine with a $20 donation.  Journal & Courier
  • After last night's storms, the Lafayette Fire Department reminded residents to shelter in basements or safe interior rooms, avoid windows, and use backup generators outdoors to prevent carbon monoxide exposure. The department also advised cautious driving in low visibility conditions and recommended checking for nearby fires once it is safe.  Star City News
  • Greater Lafayette Commerce hosted its monthly Rise & Shine event this morning where local groups shared volunteer opportunities and upcoming events, including an Arbor Day tree planting on May 2 and a Leadership Lafayette Expo on May 14.   • The Art League hosts its annual 'Cheers to Spring' fashion show today at the Courtyard by Marriott Conference Center to raise funds for educational programs at the Art Museum. Attendees can shop from vendors and bid on raffle baskets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  WLFI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The West Lafayette Community School Corp. Board of School Trustees received a 'Commendable' designation from the Indiana School Boards Association for its commitment to effective governance and professional development.   • Ten Purdue University faculty were elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (a top scientific honor) in recognition of their achievements in advancing research and education.  Star City News
