  • A new high-end steakhouse called Boilerhouse Prime will open April 9 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex and is now accepting reservations.   • Scammers are targeting Lafayette and Tippecanoe County residents with false calls about home sales and phishing emails, sometimes leading to thousands of dollars in losses. Experts from Purdue Federal Credit Union and West Lafayette police urge residents to verify suspicious communications and never click on unknown links — building trust with your bank remains key to fraud prevention.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artists' Own, a downtown gallery owned by local artists that started in 1999 and opened in 2000, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a reception held last night. Mayor Roswarski attended and presented the gallery with a plaque honoring its important role in the local art scene.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party sent a letter to Purdue President Mung Chiang asking for details on Chinese students on visas—focusing on their studies and research in aerospace and semiconductors to prevent possible security leaks. Five other universities received similar letters with responses due by April 1, and some Purdue students said they feel fear and sadness about the probe.  Star City News
  • Drivers in Lafayette will face a road closure at the Haggerty Lane and Park East Boulevard intersection starting April 1 as Atlas Excavating builds a new roundabout for a 90-day project. The project aims to improve traffic flow and extend Park East Boulevard to meet St. Francis Boulevard — motorists are advised to plan alternate routes.  Star City News

  • Purdue football resumed spring practices Tuesday and coach Barry Odom praised Purdue basketball for reaching the Sweet 16, saying that coach Matt Painter has set a high standard.   • Purdue basketball junior point guard Braden Smith is one of four finalists for the Naismith Trophy and is trying to become the next consecutive winner after teammate Zach Edey won for two straight seasons—Smith is a consensus first-team All-American who averages 16 points, 8.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals as he heads into the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue women's basketball guard Sophie Swanson has entered the transfer portal, joining teammates Jayla Smith, Madison Layden, Amiyah and Mila Reynolds. The Barrington native averaged 8.9 points last season — recovering from an ACL tear, she becomes the fifth player to make the move.  Journal & Courier
