ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ 77-year-old Kim Eberle died Thursday in rural West Lafayette when a yard waste fire got out of control and his pants caught fire while he tried to control the blaze on his property — the fire scorched several acres and eight fire departments responded after a 911 call at 4:45 p.m. Journal & Courier
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ US Marshals arrested a Lafayette woman in Seattle for the double homicide of Laporia Shenett and Kadeisha Ross—bodies discovered on March 1 along Cochise Trail—and the investigation remains active. WLFI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ English language learners at LARA celebrated their first St. Patrick's Day at Nine Irish Brothers on March 12th with pints of Guinness and plates of fish and chips. LARA teachers said the event boosted students' confidence in ordering at an American restaurant—helping them join the local community. Star City News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Greenex plans to develop a solar energy field on 1,200 acres between Montmorenci and Indiana 26 that will generate 120 megawatts by 2028 (enough to power about 20,000 homes). They will hold an info session (5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday) at the Innovation Room on Foundry Drive, and neighbors are worried about possible declines in property values. Journal & Courier

- ➤ A portion of Wea School Road will be closed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until April 18 for a repaving project (between County Road South 200 East and Concord Road). Drivers are advised to follow detours (allowing extra travel time) while crews prepare the stone for asphalt paving later this year. Star City News

- ➤ With warmer weather coming, pests in Lafayette will become active and homeowners should take steps to keep them out of their houses, according to Jeromy Smith of Smith Integrated Pest Management.
