  • At the West Lafayette Polar Plunge on Saturday, March 2, over 150 community members joined longtime supporter Lynne Noble — who has coached Special Olympics athletes for years — to help raise funds for Special Olympics Indiana through donations, auctions, and ongoing online contributions.  Journal & Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pre-construction work at the SK hynix site off Yeager Road continues this week as heavy machinery arrives to begin grading and earthwork, setting up the chip manufacturing plant for future construction.  Star City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 2, 2026, Purdue University hosted a Lunar New Year celebration at Co-Rec with artistic performances and cultural showcases including a lion dance and interactive shadow puppet shows — drawing students, faculty, and community members together.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rossville High School student Olivia James earned a Gold rating at the ISSMA State Solo & Ensemble Contest this past weekend in Indianapolis. Director Anna Fink said her achievement shows dedication and strong musical growth.  WLFI
  • Julie Yousfi from West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School was a state finalist at Poetry Out Loud on Feb. 21 in downtown Indianapolis as 11 high school students recited historic American poetry to mark America’s 250th anniversary.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cities, Purdue, and Tippecanoe County have designated Severe Weather Preparedness Week from March 8—14 to help residents prepare for severe weather. Indiana’s statewide tornado drill will be held on March 10 at 10:15 a.m.  Star City News
  • A bill that lets the state Higher Education Commission review degree programs for low earning potential has reached the governor’s desk—Purdue students worry it may cut programs they value. The proposal could limit access to academic fields that might not lead to high incomes.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lafayette Jeff senior forward Gavin Pritzel has overcome problems at school and off the court and now balances work, studies and basketball with help from mentors (his mother is receiving treatment). He will lead his team in a Class 4A Sectional 7 playoff game Friday at home at 7:30 p.m.  Journal & Courier
  • A live scoreboard helps Lafayette fans follow IHSAA boys basketball sectional playoff scores with daily updates of highlights and videos, and game times ranging from today through Saturday (including matchups at Lafayette Jeff and other local venues).  Journal & Courier
