COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new year-round farmers market opened at 525 Main St. as Greater Lafayette Commerce launched Market on Main, offering local produce, meats, dairy, and prepared foods. It operates Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. — 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. — 8 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. — 5 p.m.  WLFI
  • Lafayette seniors can join Creative Connections to share stories and spark new friendships using cards; the event is on Feb. 25 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Traditions of Lafayette (light snacks and refreshments will be provided) with plans to expand to outdoor sessions when weather improves.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 260 faculty, students, alumni, and community members signed an open letter on Friday in West Lafayette demanding Purdue end an alleged practice that blocks international graduate admissions from key nations. Purdue administrators denied any formal ban, saying decisions are communicated verbally + not based on written policy.  Journal & Courier
  • West Lafayette's Redevelopment Commission approved plans to build its new early childhood education center yesterday. The center will enhance early learning for local families and planning is underway (official timeline pending).  Star City News

  • Purdue researchers are measuring decibel levels in Mackey Arena to see if loud basketball games affect hearing long-term.  Journal & Courier

  • Purdue Surplus today sells chairs for $1 to honor former IU coach Bob Knight’s 1985 toss during the Purdue-IU rivalry. The sale brings a historic sports moment to our community and offers a unique collectible + a nod to tradition.  Journal & Courier
  • McCutcheon girls basketball left school today amid cheers and now prepares for its semi state game tomorrow at 10 a.m. at LaPorte High School against Northridge. Coach Jeff Knoy said the team will rely on its strong defense — a key factor in reaching the state championship game.  Star City News
  • On Feb. 20, an AI-powered Facebook page falsely reported that Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady was near death, which caused concern in West Lafayette while his family confirmed he was well and enjoying a drink.  Journal & Courier
  • Faith Christian guard Luke Barrett hit a buzzer 3-pointer on Friday, Feb. 20 to lift his team to a tight 51-48 win over Tri-County and then led a prayer & shared respect with opponents.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue basketball avenged a Jan. 27 loss by beating Indiana 93-64 at Mackey Arena on Friday night. Seniors Braden Smith, Trey Kaufman-Renn and Fletcher Loyer led the win while freshman Omer Mayer scored a career-high 18 points.  Journal & Courier
