COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local artist donated two pieces of art for the Unmasking Lafayette silent auction, a fundraising event partnering with the YWCA to support local nonprofits. The event is held this weekend — aiding efforts to empower women.  Star City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ahavas Achim Cultural Center has raised over $7000 toward buying Indiana's oldest synagogue on 7th Street near downtown Lafayette. The group plans to preserve the historic building and open a museum showcasing Jewish and local community history.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Longtime volunteer Bob Feuer donated a book vending machine to Earhart Elementary to let students earn a free book by trading in a gold coin for good behavior. The machine (costing $9,169 and featuring a wrap honoring Amelia Earhart) is expected to be set up in the main office soon.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue University earned 172 patents in 2025 and ranked seventh nationally and 12th globally for innovations in health, science and technology. Its Office of Technology Commercialization supported 479 disclosures and 863 patent filings to boost research impact.  Journal & Courier
  • West Lafayette has signed a design contract with StudioAXIS to build a new early childhood education center with 75-125 child-care spots. The 15-week project, planned for Kalberer Road near Fire Station 3, will feature sustainable design and expanded access for local families.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daylight Saving Time will begin on Sunday, March 8 at 2 a.m. when clocks spring forward in our area, and it will end on Nov. 1 when clocks fall back. Officials have made no changes to this biannual schedule (no permanent move planned).  Journal & Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • GLIBE will hold its first annual Healthy Heart Event on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. at 627 South Street — honoring Jesse L. Moore and offering free blood pressure checks and dietitian advice to boost heart health.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Robbie Hummel, Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Famer and lead college basketball analyst, discussed his favorite Purdue memories and the evolving sports landscape ahead of Purdue Basketball’s matchup with Michigan.  WLFI
  • Southmont wrestlers Lukas Scott and Gavin Mason will compete in the IHSAA state finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse starting Friday, Feb. 20. Coach Jamie Welliever credits their hard work and strong team support for preparing them to succeed.  Journal & Courier
