ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire in Cambridge City killed three family members Saturday morning as officials (from Wayne County) investigate a possible chimney malfunction.  Journal & Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Inari filed notice with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that 64 employees at its West Lafayette facility will be laid off starting Jan. 20 until Feb. 6 due to changing business needs in its gene-editing division.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue University is seeking a new operator for its Purdue Early Care and Education Center (scheduled to close in April) after Early Learning Indiana announced its exit. The move aims to ease the growing child-care shortage near campus.  Journal & Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • With sub-zero temperatures looming, Lafayette residents are advised to open cabinet doors and let a small trickle of water run to prevent frozen pipes. State Farm reported that over 20,000 national claims were filed between 2024 and June 2025, with Indiana claims totaling $12 million.  WLFI
  • The weekend storm left about 7 inches of snow in Tippecanoe County while Muncie and Richmond areas saw up to 12 inches before most residents stayed home. Temperatures remain dangerously low as winds shift Monday night — wind chills are forecast to drop below zero for the coming days.  Journal & Courier

  • Lafayette reminds residents to clear sidewalks within 12 daylight hours after snowfall stops, per local code, to keep walkways accessible. Officials stress the measure is vital for neighbor safety — including for children, seniors and delivery workers.  WLFI

  • Indiana conservation officer Ryan Blackman was named the 2025 District 3 Officer of the Year on Jan. 26. With 27 years in service in White County for the Indiana DNR, the award makes him eligible for the state’s top Pitzer Award.  Journal & Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Purdue University researchers are developing smart pacifiers that use sound waves to monitor infants’ breathing and detect potential respiratory issues in homes and hospitals. Funded with a $1.19 million NIH grant, they plan to begin infant testing in late 2027.  Journal & Courier

  • Muinzer closed its sale of the Chauncey Hill Annex + the Chauncey Hill Employee Parking Lot near Purdue University on Jan. 26, completing a three-property student housing portfolio in West Lafayette. The deal adds to more than $300 million in monetizations by the firm.  Journal & Courier
