Good morning, Lafayette. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 7th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wings Etc. Grill & Pub will offer active-duty personnel and veterans a free entree valued up to $13.99 on Tuesday, Nov 11 at participating locations in Lafayette and West Lafayette. • Dana Vann of Lafayette Gold Star Mothers is leading a fundraiser to cover the cost of over 3,000 Christmas wreaths for every grave at the Indiana Veterans Home. Volunteers will gather on Dec. 13 at noon at MacArthur Hall—donations online and by check will fund this effort.  Journal & Courier
  • Since the government shutdown has increased food insecurity, the Greater Lafayette Community Food Drive has teamed with the city of Lafayette, West Lafayette Parks and Rec, and Tippecanoe County government to collect donations for Food Finders — local residents are encouraged to help by donating items like can openers and pull-tab cans that support SNAP recipients.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Lafayette is facing a power outage affecting about 1,800 residents and police advise drivers to treat traffic signals as four-way stops while Duke Energy works to restore power.  Star City News
  • Since November 6, Wabash Township has allowed residents losing SNAP benefits to apply for emergency food assistance. Trustee Angel Valentín said residents must show proof of residence, a state or federally issued ID and SNAP eligibility (weekly food vouchers are limited to 25% of monthly SNAP benefits) (funding restraints apply).  Star City News
  • Due to the government shutdown, the FAA said thousands of flights from major airports including Chicago’s O’Hare and Indianapolis are scheduled to be canceled, and local residents in Lafayette say their travel plans may be delayed. Some locals warned that Thanksgiving travel could suffer while Purdue confirmed there are no issues at its airport (the Chicago Department of Aviation advised travelers to check flight statuses).  Star City News
