Tippecanoe County's community cats program uses a 24-hour hold to spay, vaccinate and microchip free-roaming cats — it returns them to where they were found.
In its first year, the initiative processed 275 cats and continues to protect shelter capacity amid local debate.
💼 Business
Local business leaders met Friday morning at River City Community Center for Greater Lafayette Commerce’s Rise & Shine event.
They previewed Manufacturing Week (Sept. 28 through Oct. 2) and a Cars for Keeps fundraiser with bourbon tasting & BBQ, and the next Rise & Shine is on Friday, Oct. 2.
🎓 Education
Purdue University ended its subsidy for CityBus semester passes on campus, making students pay $155 for a four-month pass compared to $50 last year.
Colleges will partially reimburse graduate employees while the new bus app and updated buses aim to improve service.
🏛️ Government
Governor Mike Braun extended Indiana's gas tax holiday through October to ease pump costs for drivers.
The tax will resume after October — unless further relief is provided.
📰 Real Estate
Lafayette's Jeffersonian senior housing community received statewide recognition on Sept.
2 when it won the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority's 2026 Excellence in Affordable Housing Award for seniors. The development launched in December 2025 and reached full occupancy by March 2026 meeting local demand for safe, affordable living.

High school football scores from Friday, Sept.
4 have been released for Lafayette area and statewide games, including a rescheduled matchup between Lebanon and West Lafayette (moved due to Purdue football). This scoreboard offers a quick look at game results from a busy day in high school sports.
Friday night high school football showcased local prep action as teams shifted game times to avoid the heat.
McCutcheon (1-1) hosted Lafayette Jeff (0-2) at 8:00 p.m., with both teams seeking to improve their early season records.
Purdue football coach Barry Odom spoke after the team won 44-19 against Indiana State, giving a clear look at the game’s performance.
His postgame remarks highlighted the effort that led to the victory.
